Metopic ridge

Hi everyone,

my baby (9 months) has got a ridge down his forehead from his fontanelle to his nose. I pointed it out to GP who sent him for some x rays. The x Ray report has just come back and says his metopic suture has a closed early.

GP says he haas reviewed report and it isn't a problem and we don't need a referral as the other sutures are open. But looking on sites about cranial synostosis, there seems to be a lot of examples of baby needing surgery even with 1 closed suture. Obviously I am not wanting any of this for my darling boy, but am concerned that if he did need something doing it would be more difficult the older he gets.

Does anyone have any experience of this, would you get a second opinion? Do you know if the ridge will go away? I don't want to offend my GP at all as he is lovely and very thorough, but I am worrying a lot and he admitted he hadn't dealt with this before. Thank you.

Hi there,

my daughter was born with sagittal CS. this was diagnoised when she was 2 days old. i know there have been some instances when it hasnt been diagnoised.

from my experience and that of other mothers i do know who also have children with it, it is obvious they have a 'different' shaped head.
if you are worried, get a second opinon, the older the child is, if he does need surgery the harder it is. if it were me, i would push for answers!
good luck xx
