obstructive sleep apnoea

My 2yr DD had a tonsillotomy and adenoidectomy for obstructive sleep apnoea a week ago. Our main symptom was her unsettled-ness at night, and frequent frequent distressed wakings. She is still quite unsettled at night, and while I hadn't noticed any apnoea episodes up to last night, she had a few episodes last night. And in her waking, when asked what was wrong, she said "my nose". Has anyone been thru this procedure and what were your results? I had hoped, as did the surgeon, that relief would be almost instant. I don't want to panic but we have had a hell of 2 years with sleep. It took the guts of 2 years to discover the problem. (Funny, once someone listened and labelled, all of a sudden, everyone took us seriously, and she was whooshed up the waiting list for surgery.) We had soo hoped this would solve our sleep problems. In fairness, she IS sleeping a bit better. But I suppose we had high hopes. Anyone have experience?

A friend's dd had exactly the same problem and the apnoea disapeared immediately after the op and never returned. So I wonder whether your dd maybe has somesort of post-operative rebound swelling. If it happens again I'd go back to the surgeon, I think.

Can you watch her sleepng, just to be sure it's not habit waking her, or maybe she woke for a different reason, but only knows the one explanation for wakIng.

I was wondering aboout rebound swelling. It's definitely not habit waking her. She doesn't really wake, more thrashes about the place and moans a bit. Like she's uncomfortable I actually woke her last night to give her calpol. She's in the bed with us, so I tend to notice almost everything. Think I will ring consultant.
