how long should sick children sleep?

My daughter's (2yrs) been sick since the beginning of the week - first with painful mouth ulcers (thanks for the responses on that post) but now it's turned into a vomiting virus that's just wiped her out. She hasn't eaten anything for over 48 hours and although she'll take a little water it's not really much. The main thing is she has no energy, completely listless and just wants to sleep. How long do these things last? Is it normal for kids to sleep more or less for 2 whole days when they're ill? Son has never had anything like this.

Have you seen a GP or called NHS direct? I would. Poor duck. Hope she picks up XX

Maybe be aware of dehydration. Usual guidelines are that if kiddies have't drunk much in 24 hours seek medical attention.

If you live in county durhma you can call 111 otherwise 0845 4647 for NHS direct?

Poor you guys, hoping she gets better soon :)

I think they can be very listless for a couple of days - mine normally don't sleep for the whole day but they do tend to just lie around not doing anything.
Are you sure she has had enough to drink - maybe you ought to give NHS out of hours a call just to make sure?
Also - you can keep an eye on nappies - frequwncy of pees becasue this is a good way of knowing if she needs more fluid in.
Hope she is feeling better soon.

Thanks for this. I roused her a bit to give her water, which she's kept down. She sat on the sofa for about 10 minutes and then just wanted to go back to bed. I'll sleep with her tonight again and if nothing changes by the morning, will take to A&E. Saw the Dr this morning and he seemed to think she'd be fine so maybe he's seen this kind of thing before but the sleepiness seems really odd to me.
