Would it be obvious if my son had a UTI?

I'm really not sure whether to take my son to the doctors tomorrow or not and thought there might be someone out there who could advise.

I think he may have a UTI, but the symptoms are very subtle and I am led to believe that UTIs are very rare in small boys (he is 2.9), and there is a distinct possibility that I am over worrying as we are going away for a month on Saturday so really if I am going to take him to the doctors I need to do it tomorrow.

So - symptoms are: he has been weeing a bit more than usual for the past few days, 3-4 times unable to hold it until we get to the loo (though he has only been potty trained for a couple of months, so this could be a back slide).
This afternoon when he woke from his nap he had a mental tantrum (which is unlike him, but not unheard of) and once he'd calmed down he said his willy hurt.
A couple of times since then he's said his willy hurt when he had a wee, but I did ask if it hurt and he said yes. I also asked if his back/head/tummy/knee hurt and he said yes to all though...!

Just got a feeling something is not right. But there is no temperature, he generally seems ok otherwise, not tired or ill in himself.

WWYD - doctors or am I being silly?

i would take him to be on safe side thing is boys pull and prod and can sometimes cause little sores on the end that may become infected it wont hurt to get him checked he may well be getting virus etc or uti it is uncommon for young boys but not unheard of so if you know his not right wont hurt to take him gp can give him once over ears throat etc to rule out anything else
