when DD was potty trained at around 2 1/2 she learnt quickly but would often have accidents. When she needed to wee she couldn't wait for more than a minute before she would wet herself.
When she started school she was refared to a urology specialist at our local children's hospital. DD was diagnosed with urge incontinence. We tried all kinds over the next few years from star charts to medication. Eventually they decided to do an explortary operation to see what was going on. The found that DD had a small bladder and also the urethra lining was thin and therefore weak.
Low and behold, just as we were getting somewhere, the urology consultant left and was replaced. The new consultant was not prepared to operate until she had explored herself. So DD underwent the op again only to be told that everything was normal, her muscles would become stronger over time blah blah blah and go back to star charts. DD was about 8 or 9 by this time and did not want to fill in babyish star charts.
We carried on for a while and DD did seem to be getting better slowly so in the end I gave up taking her to follow up appointments. DD could also be quite lazy and sit in her own urine soaked clothes until we told her to change, so I beleived that once she got a bit older she would control her urge by using the toilet more frequent as to avoid embarrisment.
She is now 14 and she is still the same. She just doesnt seem to care although Im sure she does, but nothing anybody says seems to make a difference. Her friends have stopped asking her to go out and Im sure this is the main reason but she just wont accept it. I know I need to take her back to the GP and try again, I just hope DD wants to sort it out too.
I feel so sorry for her but she just doesnt help herself at all
