Omeprazole - did it work for you??

Hi all,

DS2, 19 weeks, has just been prescribed Omeprazole 5mg to start going up to 15mg if needed.

At the moment he is on ranitadine, domperidone and gaviscon as he just does not want to feed at all and hasn't gained any weight for nearly 8 weeks. He has hypotonia and is also on long term trimethoprim for a bad UTI when he was 6 weeks.

Has anyone had DCs on omeprazole and has it worked?? Am desperate for something to help as really don't want him to have to go in to be tube fed

Thanks

Have taken recently as an adult and it worked brilliantly. Started to notice the difference after only a few days.

This drug works, but I still need to raise the head of the bed 6-8 inches with blocks. Was this suggested to you? Is it safe for a baby in a crib? I would ask the Dr. as I would be worried your son might be injured somehow by falling, or knocking the blocks over when he's older. I tend to slide down at night, but it really helps.

Yes, it worked great for my DS. Just make sure you administer it correctly. Is it Losec you have been prescribed? If yes, you need to dissolve it in water and make sure you don't crush the little granules. It is a bit difficult as they used to get trapped in the syringe, so in the end we gave it to DS from a spoon. Good luck, I hope it helps!

Thanks all, doesn't seem to have done much so far but keeping everything crossed!

Duende - we have a specially made syrup rather than the soluble tablets to avoid that. My dad is a pharmacist so knew where to get it!!

I have heard that the suspension may be less effective in some children, so maybe if it doesn't work after some time it is worth trying the tablets?

how much does your DS weigh?
