Physio for children - options??

Hello. My son has suffered an injury which I would have expected to be considerably better by now if the medical professionals are to be believed and he has not broken a bone.

I am going to ask my GP for a referral, possibly for another specialist paed orthopaedic or a physio, and to get a second opinion (3 doctors at A&E disagreed as to whether or not he had in fact got a broken bone...)

Are there physios who specialise in children (he is nearly 6?). How does one establish which ones do, and which ones don't? I am not sure I expect my GP to have that level of information at their fingertips, so wondered how I might go about doing some of the leg work myself?

Any tips gratefully received.

most areas have specialist childrens physios, usually a team that deal with disabled children and another that deal with recovery after injuries. Gp would normally refer to physio because of xyz and the physio team would then decide who you see. You could always try your local hospital trust website, sometimes there are details there.

My son saw a paed. physio at local hospital after referal from gp.
He was seen quite quickly, in a matter of weeks, which was great. Not for an injury, just on going medical condition, so a few weeks was fine for us.

Good luck

www.physiofirst.org.uk/default.asp
you can do a search for private physiotherapists on the physiofirst website. just search your location and click on childrens conditions as part of your search.
