2yr old has a stutter should i be worried?

my (just) 2 yr old has begun to develop a stutter,she speaks well for her age,is outgoing
and confident,
it seems to me she is so desperate to get her point across she becomes over exited and stumbles over the first word resulting in "whwhwhwhwhere's baby doll gone?"

so,should i take her to the doctors re speech therapy or am i compleatly over reacting and this is something she'll just grow out of?!

My youngest daughter developed a stutter when she was 3 and had just started nursery. Her teacher told me that it was because her brain was working faster then her mouth and she was trying to get too many words out in one go. Her teachers told me not to worry as it was only a passing phase and now she is 6 yrs old and speaks perfectly. She out grew the stutter pretty soon after.

I assumed as she had an older sister, she spoke well for her age as a 2-3 yr old and hence that was why her brain was working too fast for her mouth. She too stumbled on her first word of each sentence.

I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye on it.

My eldest son was like this at about 2 1/2 just after we moved house. Our HV told me it wasn't a stammer or a stutter, but a speech affectation and that it was nothing to worry about. Sure enough it cleared up over the course of a few weeks. It did reoccur when his little brother was born, so obviously big changes were effecting him, bu again it cleared up quickly. Aged 7 he now has a very good, confident speaking voice, so no long term problems!
