Iron supplements for 5yr old

I think I know the answer to my question already but just in case!

DD1 has been on spatone since aged 1 (on dieticians advice) as she has food issues and we are veggie. Til 3.5yrs it was mixed in her Neocate no problems but she then got over her dairy intolerance and so we have been putting it in her milk. I now realise that calcium can reduce the absorption of the iron by half so this is a very bad idea!

We give her iron rich foods as much as poss but this is a backup for us given a reasonably restricted diet. You are meant to give spatone in fruit juice but she wont drink any drink apart from milk or water (no squash or anything) and Spatone can't be disguised in water. She won't take anything like Floradix and she wont eat chewy vits (doesnt eat sweets!).

I assume I am wasting money giving her Spatone in milk and might as well stop. But as far as I know there are no palatable iron supplements out there?

thanks

could you put it in jelly?

good idea but she doesn't do puddings either apart from chocolate things! And also needs to be given daily. My feeling is i am going to have to stop supplementing and just hope she is ok - she does eat lentils and baked beans (just not hot on green veg!).

My DGS would vomit iron syrup back it was so foul. And he needed it as his HB was 6.8 at 6 months and he looked transparent. My daughter forced it down in a syringe for 5 months but the constant vomiting with this med didnt help his underweight problems. No help here sorry, just LOTS of sympathy!!
