Chicken pox and nursery guidelines

My DD (3yrs in Sept) has chickenpox, first took her to docs on Tuesday, when she had about 10 spots on her arms and face. She hasn't got any new ones since the first lot came out, and they seem to be fading nicely. (no crusting though).This is her second time of having CP and has been fine in herself both times. They don't even seem to itch her very much.
I can't remember what the guidelines are for going back to nursery, can anyone help me?
We're all going a bit stir crazy now and I'm dying to take her for a good run in the park.

I would take her back if they've faded. It sounds like a minor attack and she was most infectious before the spots appeared anyway. My dd3 came out with it on a Tuesday night and was back at nursery the following Monday. No reason you can't take her out in the fresh air even if you don't go for nursery. CP is infectious through close contact - which is defined as being in the same room as an infectious person for more than 15 minutes.

There are excluded 5 days from onset of rash so she could go back tomorrow.

My DD2 has had chickenpox since Wednesday with spots still appearing. DD1 is not showing any symptoms at all...do I take her to pre school tomorrow?

Yes take her to nursery - she may not get it, also the incubation period is about 10 days to 21 days so she may not get it for other two weeks.

The doc told me not to take her out as apparently the spots themselves are infectious, if she scratches and then wipes her hands on the swings she could pass it on. Living in central(ish) London means that our play-grounds/parks are busy all the time, so nowhere isolated to take her unfortunately.

Thanks for your replies, 5 days? That's good news, I thought there was some rider about crusting, we don't appear to have that, just fading...

Different nurseries may have different policies - mine would only accept children whose spots had all crusted over.

Have a look at these Health Protetion Agency guidelines which settings should adhere tohere
