she started yesterday, she'd just finished a breastfeed and she lifted her head back to see something and she started shaking her head, rather rapid shaking, only lasted about 5 seconds but ive never seen her do it before, shes my 4th and non of my others have ever done anything like it, i know it doesnt sound much, but it looked very odd, any ideas? am i just being a worrier? btw she's 5 months.

DS2 used to do something like this occasionally.

I associated it with teething - I think they suddenly get discomfort and can't cope with it.

He's now 18 months and doesn't do it any more while feeding - although he does still like wibbling his head rapidly to make himself dizzy - and then he falls down in a heap laughing!

DS used to do this from 6 months, he's 17 months now and has stopped. I think its a sensation thing for them.

Oh thankyou so much!! ugh i think im turning into a right worrier! im normally soooo chilled out and take everything in my stride, but i saw her do this and i just obsessed about it all day got myself convinced she's was developing some major syndrome! thaks for putting my mind at rest!

Lol i did that too, my teen DD's scared me and said maybe there was something wrong with him and i got really paranoid but sure enough he grew out of it.

My dd who is also 5 months started doing this last week. I think she is doing it when she is trying to keep herself awake. She does it so fast now she makes herself dizzy and thinks its hilarious

mumbar · 18/07/2010 21:56

my ds did it too sometimes loads

nigglewiggle · 18/07/2010 21:58

I remember one of my DD's doing it and I decided it was when they were doing a wee.
