DD2 10 mo woke up mon night with high temp (39.5) and since Wed she has had a chesty cough and runny nose. I took her to the gp on Thu who said that as chest is clear and it must be a virus, I should just give her calpol and nurofen. She is still not well and the temperature is still high. She is not eating too well, but she is drinking plenty of milk. I am worried that she could have a chest infection and need antibiotics.Should I take her to A&E today or should I just wait and see how she is today and tomorrow and go to gp on Mon? is it normal that her temp is still high after 6 days?

TIA

Absolutely not. There is a condition called Kawasaki disease (fortunately rare). Children get high fevers for a prolonged time. www.nhs.uk/conditions/Kawasaki-disease/Pages/Introduction.aspx
normal fevers last 2-3 days. Were her ears, throat etc checked. Untreated infections also cause prolonged fevers. 6 days is excessive

Thanks, in the end I took her to a private gp as I could not face sitting in A&E all day with her and apparently her right ear and her troat are quite red and she is now on antibiotics.

Good on you - you could have accessed the emergency GP out of hours service for free. Youre right A&E not the best place for children. Anyway as long as she's sorted - its often the usual suspects, ears, throat, chest etc
