dd1 - nearly 6 is on flucloxicillin for a staph aureus ear infection which is now also come out as impetigo on her face. Her ear has been weeping pus for a week now and she really does need the fluclox (she has been on amoxicillin until yesterday). It took 1.5 hours of screaming and spitting this morning to get it into her. . I really feel for her because it is truly foul but I know she really does need something to knock this infection on the head. Any ideas?

Have you tried using a syringe and putting it in side of mouth into cheek pocket? It is so difficult, we have just been through this nightmare and fair play to them it tastes vile.

i think it would be less traumatic if i could have injected it/suppository.

Ring the GP and ask if there is an alternative. Something better than the amoxicillin but not as foul as the fluclox.

DD is meant to take something for her UTIs but I have to get her amoxicillin instead as she won't take the better stuff. But obviously you need something that works as well....but there could be a 3rd option.

Tell her needles are the alternative.

Can you get tablet form and try that?

thank you - we went for nutella. A quick half-teaspoon in the mouth but no swallowing so taste buds coated in the hazelnutty goodness. Then medicine quickly in, swallow, followed by more nutella. Not ideal but at least she's taken it
