20mth olds wee smells funny

My ds's wee smells funny

when his nappy is full it reeks (sometimes it smells like he has pooed other times it just smells) and I have two othe dc's and it's never smelt like this it's not just a wee kind of smell it's very odd

It's been like this for a month or so now and I's just thought it was me but today my mum has commented on it cos she thought he needed changing cos she could smell it but I'd only just done it

he's very well hydrated and very well in himself does anyone have any ideas

I was going to take him to the docs and get him checked for a urine infection, but would I need to take a sample and how on earth would I go about getting a sample

Put a sandwich bag over his willy, tape in place with micropore tape (from chemist). Put nappy back on to help keep it all in place. Keep checking and then transfer wee to suitable container.

Not much idea on why his wee smells funny though, sorry.

are you sure it is the wee that smells and not the nappy itself as some of them can stink even before they wee in it

i would check it out with doc as some conditions ie, diabeties can affect urine odor its probly nothing but best to b on the safe side,

Has he eaten broccoli, cauliflower or garlic recently?

All of these things make my DS wee smell bad - to the extent that I think he has pooped at night - never has though.
