Reading order of 'Chronicles of Narnia'

DD (age 5.2) has just finished reading 'The lion, the witch and the wardrobe'...and is very keen to read more in the series. However, which book comes next?
It doesn't seem as straight forward as I thought or remembered...as this chart shows
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Narnia (scroll down).
So, what would be the next book for her to read?
Many thanks.

The Horse and his Boy happens during the Lion the Witch and the wardrobe (and was my first one btw).
The next with the original characters is the Prince Caspian.
The Magician's Nephew happens before.

We have a big Harper Collins The complete Chronicles of Narnia and the order in there is; The Magicians Nephew, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and his Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair then The Last Battle.

Although CS Lewis insisted readers should start with the Magician's Nephew, for younger readers especially I think it makes more sense either to go for The Horse and His Boy or Prince Caspian - however, the first couple of chapters of Prince Caspian are pretty yawn-worthy and dd nearly gave up - thankfully once the story got going her interest revived

We did Lion, Horse and Boy, Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, Silver Chair, Magician's Nephew and I've pretended the Last Battle doesn't exist!

Thanks all!
I think Price Caspian will keep the interest as she loves the main characters.

Possibly you could do either the chronological order or the order the series was published;

Chronological;
Mag Neph; LW + Wardrobe; Horse + Boy; Prince Caspian; Voyage of DT; Silver Chair; Last Battle

Published;
LW + Wardrobe; Prince Caspian; Voyage of DT; Horse + Boy; Silver Chair; Mag Neph; Last Battle.

Magician's nephew does come first chronologically but was written later. I have never managed to get all the way through Horse and his Boy - may try again some time.

It doesn't much matter where you read The Magician's Nephew or The Horse and His Boy so long as you read the others in chronological order.

We did -

Lion, W, W
The Magician's Nephew
Prince Caspian
Dawn Treader
Silver Chair
Last Battle

and I always left The Horse and His Boy for them to read themselves. I think it's difficult to fit in otherwise.

Prince Caspian next.

Then Voyage, then Silver Chair, Last Battle. The other 2 don't 'belong' but are fantastic stories so can be read later.

DandyDan · 12/07/2010 12:42

But it's important before reading The Last Battle to know who Polly and Diggory and Fledge and King Frank and Queen Helen are; more so than knowing about Aravis and Cor etc

I did LW&W first, then Mag Neph and chronological order. Definitely important to have read Mag. Neph before Last Battle.

Horse and his boy is lovely and also helpful before Last Battle IMO.
