The Last of The Really Great Whangdoodles, by Julie Andrews?

I read it as a child, loved it then and still do. Dd is now reading, and loving, it. And I'm so glad I hung on to my copy as I've never cme across it since, and nobdy else seems to have heard of it.

Is that the same Julie Andrews as singing nun?

Peabody · 04/07/2010 19:54

I've read it! My library had a copy. I'd forgotten all about it until you mentioned it.

PrettyCandles · 04/07/2010 19:59

The very same - singing nun, Mary Poppins, and Shrek's MIL.

Peabody - were you in the USA?

I read it when I was young. I got a copy about 10 years ago, and all my kids loved it, and some consider it one of their top children's books.

No-one I know has every heard of it either.
My daughter wrote to Julie Andrews two years ago and told her how much she liked the book (and one of her more recent ones, The Great American Mousical), and got a letter and signed photo back.

I did and loved it - but had forgotten about its existence until you mentioned it. Wonder if it is in print? Don't think I ever had a copy of my own but had it (many times) from the library.

It is in print in the UK and available from Amazon for under £4, with older copies under £10.

Thank you - in my basket...

I read my daughter "Mandy" by Julie Andrews a few years ago. It was a really gentle story about an orphan girl, similar to A Secret Garden and A Little Princess. It was lovely.
