My mum bought my DD a book from France in French called le enchated ambre. Its a book that opens up into a free standing dolls house type thing with lots of beautiful little paper figures to play with. you tie the front and back covers together using the little riboon so it stands up. My dd adores it.

I am looking for something similar for a birthday of a freinds daughter in english. What do you call these types of books? They are pop up books of sorts I guess but I have never seen them in this country and was wondering if anyone had any links or suggestions.

We have one that is Father Christmas's workshop. It's just lovely.

Try googling, things do come up.

This for example which is very expensive but the first one I clicked on.

We have a ballet one which my daughter never really plyed with. It is an M&S one so you could have a look there.

Maybe museum gift shops would be a good place to look? My dd had a Victorian Grocers Shop book which sounds exactly the same - though I have to say she never played with it at all. It was a present from my parents - they got it in a museum shop somewhere.

I've seen them in TK Maxx from time to time but like anything it is pot luck what they have in at the time.

It might be worth looking if you have one locally though.
