Read in order or not?

I have started to think about getting books for my ds for him to read himself. He already has quite a few like the gruffalo but I was thinking of getting him something along the lines of Beast Quest, Mr Majeika, Mr Gum etc. We have the book people magazine which shows a couple of recent ones so my question is does it matter what order they get read?

He has just started reading Horrid Henry and the reading level is just about right, will the ones mentioned above be along the same level?

Mr gum is defiantly slighly older than horrid henry but I dnm't think it matters about the order

Beast Quest definitely designed to be read in order (though in our case it doesn't seem to dim the flames of passion that we're not). Very gripping though.

Thanks for the replies. Think I will try and start from the beginning on any series. Think I will also give Mr Gum a miss for now. Was thinking of getting Mr Majeika and Famous Five. Hopefully they will be at his level.

they don't need to be read in order.

i would go for Secret 7 rather than famous 5, as they are aimed at slightly younger kids.

I don't think the order matters too much at this age, although if you are buying books from a series that is new to your son, you might as well buy the first in the series to set the scene.This site is very useful for giving you the order of books in a series.

I work with children in primary schools, choosing and reading books together and find that one of the most difficult jumps is leaving Horrid Henry behind and moving to something slightly different. You might like to try the Ricky Ricotta series which although fairly simple,would show your son that there is life after Horrid Henry.

Another great series is the Geronimo Stilton series.
