I've posted this a few times!

When I was little I had a book.

Agirl walked to the sea at night and the tide ahd gone so far out that it had revealed a city that had been drowned.

She explores it and the tide starts to come back and shes running to get away from the water.

Its very eerie!

I can't remember if she meets anyone there... please help me remember this I really want to find it!

It was a book with huge pictures and bits of writing on each page, not just words on a page if that helps!

It sounds like it's based on a welsh folk tale. Jenny Nimmo writes that kind of thing. Could it be one of hers?

aSilverLining · 01/03/2010 11:10

Sorry, the story is nt familiar, which is a shame as it sounds like something I would have loved as a child. Isn't there a website dedicated to this, is there is someone on there may be able to help?

Disenchanted3 · 01/03/2010 11:13

I can't remember any details as I was only young and didn't really read up on authors.

this is a good place to post

I don't know the book, sadly

There's a story about a drowned city by Helen Cresswell - I'm not 100% sure about the title but it might be The Secret World of Polly Flint, I think?

Only in that the village was drowned in a lake, not the sea.

Disenchanted3 · 01/03/2010 11:17

no not Jenny Nimmo AFAIKC.

The pictures weren't likeddawings, more like paintings,

like the 'whale song' pictures

  • like drawings,

It wasn't a book like Harry Potter, all words, it was big beautiful pictures.

I always see a big picture of a shell, a conk (sp?) shell.

Its been driving me mad for years!

It sounds Joan Aikenish.
Or Susan Cooper?

What age would you say?

Joan Aiken did a few picture book novels- we have one called The Moon's Revenge illustrated by Alan Lee, and on the back (I have just had a look at it) it lists another called The Kingdom Under The Sea. Might that be your book?

Disenchanted3 · 02/03/2010 10:51

No its not that, thankyou though -0
