Attention please Roisin or mums of pre-teen boys please

Hello! I am looking for book recs that are boy friendly, for ages 11 and 12, some of which might also appeal to KS3 boys but with reading ages of 7-9 and others for boys with reading ages to match or be just above chronological. Not the obvious ones like Horrowitz, Young Bond, Artmeis Fowl, as I know those but ones that are maybe newer than that or older with lasting appeal.

DS (10 but reasonably able) just raced through several of the Baker St Boys books by Anthony Read. He now wants to read Conan Doyle.

Maybe they would appeal - could capitalise on the film recently out?

ds1 loved Cherub ( verging on teenage)

wimpy kid( both)
er the Glory Gardens cricket series
ds2 liked the David Beckham books too.

what about the ones written by henry winkler. I bought those for my 12 and half yr dyslexic ds. (sorry can't remember titles)

And also Wimpy kid series are good.

Tt's for using in school - even the good readers tend not to read. Inner-city pupils with v few books at home and a need for instant gratification etc - lovely though! Anthony H goes down well but the Alex Rider ones are about as long and complex as a) they'd accept and b) there's time for.

JUst looked at Cherub website Su - says the cherub club for 13+. My DS is 10, do you think he'd cope with the books? ie is the subject matter ok?

beast quest is fantasty beast series for 6 - 8 year old

ds3 read 24 of them!

beast quest maybe a bit young, more for 6-7-8 yos I would say.

It's a series (like Rainbow Magic for girls) with a kind of magical mystery theme a la Narnia (but a lot easier).

How about Jeremy Strong? for the younger age group. Also my DS1 (10 and not keen on reading) likes Goosebumps series.

I don't know if I can bring myself to think about Beckham.

It's important that they don't 'look' like primary-pupil books.

DS1 is nearly 11 and has devoured the Cherub books. I think the content is fine for a 10 year old provided they aren't fragile little flowers. However, I'm not letting his nearly 9 yo brother read them as I think he is marginally too young for the content.

A reading age of 7-9 may be a little on the young side (a friends DS who is coming up to 10 and not a great reader has found them tough but due to the story he's been keen to read them which is good) but the content is fine if they're 11 and 12 IMO. the story may well pull older poor readers along - I don't think the language is that difficult (I've read them too as a check!)

OOH ds1 has just LOVED blardy adrian mole

Muchamore has also done a series Henderson's Boys, about teen spies in WW2, which IMO is not quite as as Cherub

LOL - I've found the Henderson Boys much gorier! The war violence/deaths were quite graphic IMO.

So cherub sounds okay for the ones with reading age of 10 or 11? Phew.

What about Malorie Blackman & Noughts & Crosses?
