My First Sex Eduction Book...

Hi
Anybody know of a good book to start the ball rolling with teaching the biological facts of sex and making babies? I want to make sure it's a topic my DC's can raise at any time without any awkwardness, as I believe that teaching the 'facts of life' quite young makes them just that - facts, not something to be secretive and silly about.
I was told at 5 (our dog escaped while on heat and I witnessed the response of a local male dog, so Mum gave it to me straight!) all about menstruation and how babies are made, so I never really thought about it or found it something to be hidden.

I bought this, The Body Book for DD, it's and old one but is good, child friendly language, pictures (which led to much giggling), and enough info on how things work. It was recommended by another mumsnetter so thought I'd do the same.

funny I should come across this thread because I was in the library today and borrowed Mummy Laid an Egg! without reading through it first

DS is nearly 3 and I was hoping it would subtly shed light on how babies come about, but it was far too graphic!! DH even laughed at the book and said it wasn't really appropriate for DSs age.

Perhaps this is what OP wants though? everyone has their own views on this subject.

You don't say how old your child is but I have found that two good books for younger children are Usborne's 'How are Babies Made?' and 'Let's Talk about Where Babies Come From' by Harris and Emberley.

I am looking for a similar book for my DS8. Had parents evening the other night and there was a display about sex education detailing the elements that the children were going to be taught. I would like to have a caht with DS8 before he is taught in class so am looking for something that doesnt go into tooooooo much detail IYKWIM, just the facts. I will then get another book to cope with all the teenage issues!

Hi,

I'm an Usborne organiser and we do a fab book on puberty called "What's Happening to me?" - it's avail for boys and girls. You don't say how old you are looking for?
