Books for bright 12 yr old boy

I'd like to buy a couple of books for my nephew, pref classics. He's enjoyed Thirty Nine Steps, and I think he's more taken by genuine classics than more contemporary fiction which he just passes to younger brothers.

My bright 11 year old loved Sherlock Holmes and P G Wodehouse.

Chocky, by John Wyndham

My ds also loves Sherlock Holmes. How about things like Jules Verne as well? Well-written adventure stories.

Also Three Musqueteers, Treasure Island.

Has he read His Dark Materials? Contemporary but definitely a 'genuine classic'

Tom's Midnight Garden? Treasure Island? Swallows and Amazons? The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? Tom Sawyer and Hucklebury Finn? Gulliver's Travels?

A genuinely bright twelve-year old ought to be happy reading most adult fiction, unless it is especially "literary"/unreadable like Ulysses or something.
