Some oldies but goodies for you! Paddington and Kiplings, Just So Stories and Doctor Doolittle. My DS loved all these at that age. Oh, and Winnie the Pooh.

More modern, the Julia Donaldson books (Guffalo and Squash and a Squeeze etc) and the Martin Waddell books. Farmer Duck was a great favorite.

Just about anything by Shirley Hughes, classics include " Alfie Got In First" "Dogger" and too many more to mention.

Walker Bear books publish really good kids stories.

You can buy collections of both Shirley Hughes and Walker bear stories.

I'm quite obsessed with Roald Dahl. The illustrated Charlie & the Chocolate Factory might work, or The Twits - nicely arranged into short chapters, perfect for bedtime reading! My children's very favourite is a poem about a flying cow called Milky Daisy (yes, you can imagine how it ends)
