Another 'find that book' thread - teenage novel about the suffragettes

. . .not for dd, much too old, but I'd really like to track this one down for some teenage friends.
I thought it was a KM Peyton novel, but can't identify it as one of hers now (and think I may be conflating it with 'Dear Fred' about Fred Archer the jockey).
Its basically about a girl involved with the suffragettes, and it includes some quite graphic scenes of one of them being jailed and force fed
Any ideas? Or does Dear Fred include bits about the suffragettes?
Or indeed any other good novels about the suffragettes suitable for teenage girls?

I thought this might be 'Miss Rivers and Miss Bridges' by Geraldine Symons, but having looked at it, I don't think it matches your description. This is a great site, www.marysmoffat.co.uk/bibliography/twenty/suff.htm which includes a section on children's historical fiction about the Suffragettes - I wondered if your book might be Geoffrey Trease's book 'Bring Out the Banners'?

I think that it is Bring out the Banners - and that is a fantastic site, many thanks, it is exactly what I was looking for. In fact I think some of the other books might be better than the one I remember.

DD2 really liked Polly's March which is one of the other books listed on provincial lady's link. I like the sound of Bring out the Banners, I never realised Geoffrey Trease had written about the suffragettes.

I have been looking through lots of the other pages on the site, and there is a fantastic selection of stuff on there, I can see some serious library & amazon ordering coming up.
(Come to think of it, I should have expected no less from the Provincial Lady )

That's another excellent link - I hadn't run into the Mantlemass books at all, will have to look them out especially as we have family in Lewes.

I was going to suggest this book which I read as a child. I think I enjoyed it, but barely remember the story now.
