DFC closing down with issue 43

My eldest is heartbroken. The DFC - see this thread -

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childrens_books/540091-new-children-s-comic-for-812-philip-pullman-nick-sharrat t

is closing down in two issues for lack of funding.

I am very sorry myself. I thought it was the best quality comic I've seen and I'm sure it would have been successful if only more people had known about it.

oh no

my two boys will be gutted - ds2 rushes in from school on Fridays saying "yes, it's DFC day!"

Random House put it up for sale saying that they would close it down if they didn't have a buyer by the end of March. I think they blamed the economic crisis; I suppose not many people can afford a £125 a year subs. I know that despite the quality, none of my school librarian colleagues could afford to subscribe to it for their libraries.

It is a pity. My ds loves it and has read all 42 issues (so far) several times.

I wonder - will they do a bumper issue on Friday to 'close down' all the stories? I hope so, otherwise it will be very frustrating for all the loyal DFC readers.

We were subscribers and gutted when it closed.

I got this e-mail today...some of their best stories being republished in book form
