Yes the title is a bit twee but I remember LOVING it as a child, there are some great illustrations.I was born in NZ and think it was written by an antipodean authour (Australian,I believe).I have never seen it in England,though..

My dd has this book. She got it from friends of ours in Australia. It's a lovely book. Actually you've just reminded me to dig it out, we haven't looked at it for ages.

It's an Australian Classic! John Howard (previous Aussie Prime Minister) gave a copy to Princess Mary of Denmark (a good Aussie Sheila) on the birth of one of her children.

God, yes!!
And how bizarre, was only thinking about it the other day.
We were brought up in an Australian protectorate (PNG) so it was a BIG part of our lives. Wonderful!!

It's a wonderful story! I adored it as a child and read it to myself over and over again. I can't wait for dd and ds to be old enough to enjoy it - at the moment dd would be terrified of the Banksia men. I had a flick through recently, and it is pretty scary.

And have just bought a copy for my kids, something which has been on my 'to do' list for a long time!

Ooh yes, we bought it for ours in Oz a couple of years ago - it's an Australian classic!
