Mr Gum - Book week help

I posted this in Chat, but thought I might get more response here.

DS1 has got to dress up as a character from the Mr Gum books on Friday. He has read the books but has no clue as to hat he could dress up as (Got the usual 'I dont know, cant remember' like many 8 year olds!)

I dont have much money to buy a whole new outfit, s im looking for something that I can do from things I already have if thats possible.

Anyone got any ideas on what I could do?

Well, if you could rustle up some sort of red beard - maybe with a few bugs and bits in it too - a Mr Gum costume shouldn't be too hard. Green shirt, trousers with a big belt etc ..

I love the Mr Gum Books - there's a new one out next week. Hooray!

carry a box of soap powder and go as Martin Launderette?

Hi there, my DS has to go as Mr Gum too ! Help - I like the beard idea a lot but just not sure how to construct a beard. Lots of cotton wool?

I've bought some orange fur fabric and black felt from which I'm going to fashion a stove pipe hat with attached hair and beard . I'll let you know how I get on.

The clothes should be easy enough, just some skanky old stuff.

The Spirit of the Rainbow. Just stick him in multicoloured clothes.

Or a Bag of Sticks, attach some sticks to him in a clever fashion (not a character but hey why not)

Or Martin Laundrette (who owns the laundrette) he could go in with a box of persil.
