I should add that the book needs to present a moral dilemma!

How long a book? Are you thinking picture book rather than chapter book?
I quite like good old Dogger by Shirley Hughes. I'm not sure if it is a very profound moral dilemma but it is something for them to think about - the little boy loses his dog and finds it on a stall at the school fayre. He doesn't have enough money to buy it back and by the time he manages to find his sister a little girl has bought his dog. His sister gets it back for him by giving the girl the big teddy she has won as a prize (he had been jealous of her for winning it).

Have you tried one of Aesop's fables?

Stig of the dump is a good book, lots of morals in that.

There's a book called The hundred dresses about bullying, short chapter book, loads of good discussion. Only problem is that the title makes it feel like a "girls" book when it's not.

Roald Dahl's book whose name I can't remember (Danny champion of the world???) Is about a boy who loves his dad but then discovers he is a poacher, and then goes poaching with him.

On a more picture book note. We were given a copy of a Preston Pig book. I hate it. It is obviously written from the TV cartoon. In it the pigs who are supposed to be the goodies spend a lot of time hitting the wolf, which is supposed to be ok because he is the baddie. At one point preston destroys his dads flowers and the wolf gets whacked for it. On the surface very simple cartoon book aka Tom and Jerry, but I talked to my kids about the way the wolf was treated and it takes on a whole other dimension.

Have fun

Also one called something like Bills new dress? About a boy who wakes up one morning as a girl in a pink flowerey dress and some of the issues he faces (and of course none pf the girls in his class would be seen dead in a pink flowery dress)

Also Judy Blume has a few short chapter books that deal with school issues. One called Blubber about bullying and some others (they often describe the situation though and don't bring any conclusion or suggest that certain behaviours are wrong

The Angel of Nitshill Road - damn good book. deals with bullying and including other people.
