Poetry books for 3 year old

Hello as the title suggests I would like recommendations for poetry books for a 3.2 year old.

At the moment I have just got Michael Rosen's "Quick Let's Get Out Of Here", and she loves it (I presume she gets much of her enthusiasm from me as I just love Michael Rosen ) with her favourite being Chocolate Cake.

I have just ordered Michael Rosen's Book of Very Silly Poems as well. But would love to hear of any other books which she might love to hear.

Try anything by Julia Donaldson; I think she's got a collection called "Wriggle and Roar" which my DD (aged 2.3) is really beginning to love.

Try an anthology called "Noisy Poems" edited by Jill Bennett. It might seems a bit too old for her, but it's a little known gem, and I've had to read it endlessly to my DD. There are a lot of other books in the series, but "Noisy Poems" is my favourite and a good starting point, and will give you an idea of how much she likes it before you succumb and order the rest.

I'm guessing that you already have good collections of nursery rhymes and the modern rhyming classics such as "The Gruffalo"?

If you want some poetry for children on CD, pop into your local Oxfam shop; they are selling a CD of poetry for children for a very reasonable £5. It's got about 55 poems on it, and a lot of names you will recognize: Michael Rosen, Tony Mitton, Gerard Benson, Kit Wright etc. Well worth exploring, and it may inspire you to investigate individual writers further.

Puffin do some good ones too such as this one. Someone bought that one for ds1 as a baby and we still look at it now. This one too which is good for younger children.

I was going to suggest some already mentioned.

Campaspe - Oh yes we are big fans of Julia Donaldson already. Haven't read all her books yet, but they are on the cards. That CD sounds fantastic, hopefully they will have it at my local Oxfam

Try Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes if she's mature. These are fab!

a book I bought ds1 when he was about 1 was hand hand fingers thumb, he still loves it now. It has the most amazing rhythm to it as well as rhyme. It's out of print, but can usually be found on Amazon.

When my bros and I were really young we loved almost any poetry - Tyger Tyger to Edward Lear - just the rhythms got us, we didn't need to understand them.

Oh, Shel Silverstein is lovely. Have all his stuff. Love the artwork too.

Go to an Oxfam bookshop if you have one near you. (more selection than online)Ours has a children's poetry section. Fab.

My DS does not like Dr Seuss, think he's scared by pictures.Won't look but will listen!
