My DS will be 8 in March and now has the cpomplete Horrid Henry set. I want to buy him some more books for his birthday as he loves to read, but dont really know what to buy. Can someone help me?

Also, can anyone recommend a good Childrens Science Encyclopedia?

Definitely Roald Dahl. If you want to save some money, my observation is that there is always at least one Roald Dahl in mint condition in every charity shop I go into - thus we have all of them (and some of them twice when my Mummy Alzheimers kicks in and I can't remember what we have already.

Mr Gum series of books are great, and what about Lemony Snicket?
Captain Underpants - my DS loved these when he was 8

Astrosaurus, Cows in Action, Captain Underpants all great for boys this age, also the Wimpy Kid books. My ds also loves the Jiggy McCue books and Charlie Bone. Am trying to get him to read Harry Potter as well - but apparently if he reads them it'll spoil his enjoyment of the films
