Last Term at Malory Towers

I got my set off The Book People. I managed to get them in a box set, think it cost around £8.

ConnorTraceptive · 20/01/2009 20:51

I've still got mine from when I was younger. I still read them occasionally

Jacksmama · 20/01/2009 20:51

What are the Book People - I don't live in the U.K.

Memories

I read all the Mallory Towers, St Clairs, Naughtiest Girl in the school etc etc...... (still have them all as well!)

mynaughtylittlesister · 20/01/2009 20:57

I have just had a look on The Book Peoples site and at the moment it doesn't look like they have them in.

I have to admit, I tend to go there first before looking elsewhere!

smartiejake · 20/01/2009 21:38

I am reliving my childhood at the mo reading these to my dd. We finished the "In the Fifth." one yesterday. Only one more to read before they are finished.

Have also read all the St Clare's books with her too.

I got them from lots of different places but think that Amazon will have them and also got some from Waterstones. Failing that you can order them from the library.

muggglewump · 20/01/2009 21:41

I loved them and have quite a few now. I buy them if I ever see them in the Charity Shop. Not the School ones but I bought a Faraway Tree Omnibus type one last week.

I always found Darrell a sap and a goody Fwiw and wanted to be Alicia!

PoloPlayingMummy · 20/01/2009 21:42

ahh this brings back happy memories .

Jacksmama · 20/01/2009 22:22

I grew up in Germany and they're translated into German, they were my favourite books!! But in the German translation, there are 18 books, not 6. It takes the main character all the way through post-secondary study, marriage, having a baby and then becoming Head of School of Mallory Towers at the end of the last book.
Hmmm. Maybe the German publishers took the original English story and just ran with it, the series was enormously popular.

smartiejake · 20/01/2009 22:27

OOOH do you think they have been translated back into English!

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 20/01/2009 22:29

I read these and sooo wanted to go to boarding school.
I didn't find out what lacrosse is until I was about 23 though!

Milliways · 20/01/2009 22:33

When DD read them she asked "What's lacrosse". "Nothing you'll ever get to play" was the jist of my response

Funny thing is, DS's school play lacrosse from about Yr 10.

Jacksmama · 20/01/2009 22:37

LOL Milliways!

Smartie, if they haven't been they sure should be, I loved them!!!

And for all of you who probably have no desire to don't know, lacrosse is the national sport of Canada. Not hockey, as everyone seems to think. And no, that's not a marijuana leaf on our flag, either!!!

There have been some moderately recent additions - I know this because I found one on the library that I had never heard of.
Odd and not good - it is written by some hack 'in the style of' and fills in a missing term, but it's just peculiary because she/he is writing with a modern sensibility but imitating Blyton's prose style.

Jacksmama · 20/01/2009 22:41

Oh. Doesn't sound that appealing.
Do you remember the title?

OP posts:
Portofino · 20/01/2009 22:50

I loved these and the Twins at St Clare's. I too was desperate to go to Boarding School.

My dd loves the CDs of the Naughtiest Girl in the school. She is nearly 5 and I do wonder what she makes of it all. When i listen, they all sound very "precious".

Jacksmama · 20/01/2009 22:58

What are the twins' names? Were they the Sullivan Twins? Because if they were I loved those books too!!
