Should hold which books?

I am trying to compile a list of fabulous books every child (any age) should have - so what's on your bookshelf, what do you love and what do your children love.

Yes Ria, I've just seen that it was re-issued in November and, dammit, I've splashed out on a signed copy! (Like I don't have enough editions already )

"Grimble" is better though.

it's beautiful Ria and the house is Lutyens. I just read on Wiki though that all FHB's roses were pulled out during WW2 for dig for victory campaign. They grew leeks!

GrimbleTheResourceful · 17/01/2009 22:49

Ah, Ingles, these things are always best left to the imagination, aren't they?

SoMuchToBits · 17/01/2009 22:49

We liked:-

Rod Campbell books
Little Red Train
Blue Kangaroo
Hairy McLary

Now ds (aged 8) likes:-

Terry Pratchett Nomes books
Model Railway men books by Ray Pope (mostly out of print, sadly)
Professor Branestawm

Dr Dolittle
Just started The Ghost of Thomas kempe by Penelope Lively

I also had lots of Lorna Hill (ballet) books as a child, also Alan Garner, later Ursula Le Guin Earthsea books, also like Diana Wynne Jones, The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett)

curlygal · 17/01/2009 22:51

Cuddly Duddley is fab

The duck in the truck books

DS likes "you choose" but doesn;t really seem to get the premise and chooses the same things each time we look at it - ie always wants to be on the train, get the baby, be a train driver and eat the cake.

I have great fun choosing different things each time though!

Children's books are fab.

Ria

Took a long time to get back to you but had to switch pc off coz of weather yesterday. I remember that Alison Uttley wrote a few books and I read them all but have useless memory for retaining details, so don't remember the names - moved on from her to Enid Blyton Famous 5, Secret 7, then Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie.

I have never seen any of the Alison Uttley's in the shops and when I mention her name over here in NI no one has heard of her!
