looking for title to a book I read as teenager about st nicholas...?

I remember reading this particular book again and again and again - are there any search engines where you can put in a book's plot and the name pops up?

it's a book about a young boy called Nicholas who is an orphan, and every year the people in his village take turns to look after him for a year - and as a way of saying 'thank you' to the families and the children there he would carve little wooden figures for them - and then he got to doing countless little 'toys' for all the children and then the legend of St Nick grew......

anyone? I loved this book when I was younger and would love to find a copy .
