Books for a 9 year old

My son recently finished the Harry Potter books and now has nothing to read. I've suggested loads to him but he says everything else looks boring.

He doesn't like reading but I want to keep him reading something at least...

So can anyone recommend any books for a 9 year old?

Nothing like captain underpants but nothing as difficult as the Hobbit etc...

I'm not a boy expert but try him on the Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence or the Percy Jackson books.
Spiderwick Chronicles might also be good or the Lemony Snicket books.

Anthony Horowitz are good, as is Terry Pratchett. Ds liked hitchikers guide to the galaxy. It looks huge but he assured me it was funny.

There's also the Alex Rider series and the Beast Quest series are brilliant.

There's a new book out by Frank Cottrell-Boyce (he did 'Millions' and 'Framed')called 'Cosmic' which is about a boy who goes into space by mistake - it is funny and moving, and not at all silly - I loved reading it myself and think kids from this age to 12 or 13 would love it. Have a look at the reviews on the net and see what you think?

I'd recommend any of the following:
Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz,
Jimmy Coates: Killer by Joe Craig (or any of the Jimmy Coates series - don't be put off by the 'Killer' in the title - it's perfect for that age! A really exciting thriller.)
Any Artemis Fowl book by Eoin Colfer
Percy Jackson is also a reliable author for this age.
For me, it was the Jimmy Coates series that inspired a love of reading in the family!
