Is your Magic Faraway Tree abridged???

Just bought a The Enchanted Wood,Faraway Tree, and Folk of Faraway tree compilation book from a charity shop.

Just noticed The Far Away Tree is abridged(hate that) wondered if all copies are or just this one.

It was only 40p so won't loose any sleep over it but loathe to buy a full price copy if they're all the same.

The single copies on their own aren't abridged. I think its because its a compilation book you've got. (I am that sad I have both single versions and the compilation book you've got).

Still great though!

I've just checked dd's copy and it doesn't say it's abridged.

my friends non original format garishly illlustrated copy has the golliwogs faces painted out and replaced with bears' heads. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Mine has all the names changed, and is very pc with no slapping.. Dame Slap is now Dame Snap. Very disappointed when I read it to dd.

It was published in 1994 by Mammoth (an imprint of Egmont Children's Books), we have the 2001 reprint - hope that helps track down a copy.

Thanks all, will have to get the proper copy of The Faraway Tree then just can't bring myself to read the abridged version.

Just started reading The Enchanted Wood to the DC (31/2 and 4 nearly 5) tonight they adored it!!!!!!!! 3 chapters later they finally let me tuck them in.

Was lovely reading it again.

I was convinced that I had original compilation. Have just run upstairs to check.....The magic faraway tree has been slightly abridged!!!!! Hopefully my nan still has original copies at her house.
