DGD is in reception class and is making huge progress with phonics. For her 5th birthday I’d like to buy her books she can read herself - I’d be grateful for age appropriate recommendations, ideally with engaging characters and storylines….
Please, hit me with your favourites!

Depends so much on her level but my son is loving Isadora Moon! Especially the Mirabelle spin off series - half a witch, half a fairy and totally naughty!

These are his first proper chapter books. Before that he enjoyed reading (and still does) his picture books to himself. Any picture book with not too many words to a page and nice clear font.

The Usbourne book collections are also nice. A lot of them are book band matched so you can make sure that whatever you get the right level. They have both fiction and non-fiction.

What book band is she on and which scheme?

unsure of reading scheme but knowing the Biff & Chip scheme my DD’s followed I went for the Isadora Moon series and the brilliant pigeon books! And both series have gone down very well so thank you !

How can you not know what phonics scheme the school is using for the last 6 months of her life? Confused

Because most grandparents probably don’t know this? Confused
