Graphic novels for 13yo boy?

Gift for my friends son. He enjoys graphic novels, has lots of Tintin and enjoyed Asterix.

What might he enjoy? I have no idea about graphic novels or 13 year old boys.

He is in to Star wars, Lego, transports, and drawing (comics). This is all I know!

Thanks

My two have both loved Maus (Holocaust themed, won multiple awards), 1984 and Animal Farm, and Coraline.

The Excelsior Graphic Novel Award shortlist for 2026 is a great place to look for suggestions

This runs in many schools up and down the country- kids read and vote on the best comic books (often called GNs these days)

The white & blue categories are most relevant to this age group - lots to choose from!

The shortlist includes some excellent titles:

Minecraft Manga, Tales of the Emotosphere, Unfairies, maybe Hilda and Twig if they like the Netflix?

When the Sky falls (I think this will win its amazing!), specific Star Wars/ sonic and Spider-Man comics are also shortlisted. There’s also a Japanese manga about a cat called Cat & Crazy

You can’t go wrong with these shortlists. They are chosen by comics experts for quality and the winners voted for by kids rather than publishers paying to get into the award (via marketing). Look at past winners for suggestions too
