The Secret Island by Enid Blyton

Not to be confused with 'Five on a Treasure Island' or 'The Island of Adventure'. The Secret Island starred Jack, Mike, Peggy and Nora who ran away to live on an island (with a cow, who they made swim along behind the boat!). I used to have the cassette tape narrated by Jan Francis when I was a child and I NEED to hear it again!!! I know it's a mega long shot but nobody on here has it do they? The audio file I mean, or the original tape they're willing to part with? No other version will do but that original Jan Francis one, they would just be an insult to the memory!

Ds has this on audible and he loves it!

Aw, glad PP could help. I remember this series now, but when I saw the title, I was thinking of the Island of Adventure. Always preferred both of these to FF.

I was thinking of to he 'of adventure' series too. Loved those.

Sadly that's not the original version. 😥

I don’t have the audio recording, but I absolutely loved this book as a youngster too. There was just something so satisfying about the way they snuck off to be self sufficient and made a house by bending willow trees and outwitted all the grownups! I read all the other ones in the series as well.

One of my favourite EB books. Never had it as an audio book though so can't help there.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 14/11/2025 01:43

@WaneyEdge Yep, that one, but sadly the tape is unavailable and the Audible recording is a different, modern version which I'm allergic to. I need the nostalgia hit!

There's a few versions on YouTube. There's one with a male narrator (so not Jan) but does seem the original version of the book. Im clearly being a ditz as I cannot seem to find the way to get a link for it - will come back later if I figure it out!

I had the Sea of Adventure on tape, and loved it. It waa a dramatisation, so had sound affects unlike the auduo book versions now (as far as i can tell). That's on YouTube - so i can appreciate the need to listen to the original version!!

Sorry @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter I didn’t notice that 🤦‍♀️. Hope you find it! Strangely I’ve never heard of this series even though I was an avid Blyton reader back in the day!

Any chance eBay would have it? Or that you could find out who made it and track down a copy? It’s so weird seeing your description and being transported back to reading that with a torch at night because my parents thought I read too much at night and would miss out on sleep!
