The Wardstone Chronicles - recommended by DS1(9)

Just adding a recommendation that I don't think I've seen here. DS1 (9) has been gripped by these books by Joseph Delaney - and he is a capricious reader who goes for long stretches without getting into any fiction. The first's called "The Spook's Apprentice" and there are three more. They seem to be mythical/wizarding sort of books involving the 7th son of a 7th son. Anyway, the third one arrived from Amazon yesterday and he couldn't wait to start.

Bumping this because I love these books! (I've read them all!)

Bought them for my son last year but he found them a bit hard going. He's reading them again now (he's 10) and he can't put them down.

The author is quite local to me and I'm going to stalk see him at a book signing later this month.

My DS loves those books as well. He discovered them at 13, but he didn't really get into reading until then.
