My daughter is about to turn 10 years old and loves reading. I’m struggling to find appropriate books for her so was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Thank you in advance! 😊

What’a her reading age? What kind of books does she like?

Bingbong2000 · 24/01/2025 15:43

If she likes imaginative stories worst witch, TH White books about king Arthur as a boy, the land of green ginger, e nesbit books, Narnia series (best before the new netflix version), hobbit ( but not lord of the rings yet). If more realistic stories swallows and amazons, goodnight mister tom, Heidi, moonfleet.

Greenwild - she need's to read Greenwild. Reading it with my same age daughter and we are both loving it. Probably my favourite childrens book in a long long time and I've read a lot because I was a school librarian.

Aside from that Lori and Max, the adventures on trains books (more fun than they sound), the 'a murder most unladylike' series. We won an Island by Charlotte Lo is also brilliant.

Try books by Sally Gardener

Second Sally Gardener and Murder Most Unladylike. DD loved these. She also liked Emma Fische's modern witch series, and A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Katherine Rundell
Anne of Green Gables

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Russell.
Ghostcloud and Nightspark by Michael Mann

Thank you so much, I’ve just bought this one and we’re both excited to start it!

My dd loved Podkin One Ear series at the age and also Varjak Paw and also all the Cat books (can’t remember what they are called but if you look up cat adventure series books you’ll find them - there are dozens of them).

She also loved Mallory Towers.

BabCNesbitt · 30/01/2025 13:10

Do you mean the Warrior Cats series, @StuckOnHold? My older daughter was OBSESSED with them and now DD2 is getting into them and I don't know if I can face another three years of hearing all about the clans and how the medicine cat saved Mulchtail or whatever...

I read non stop at that age...how old school will she accept? Loads of great stuff
I loved loved loved ballet shoes and white boots and all of those
Wolves of Willoughby chase loved the whole series
The dark is rising
Enid blyton school stories
I have just read the northern lights to my ten year old. He is (extremely frustratingly to me) not a book worm, so I don't think he would have got through it himself but if she's a reader, she might
Swallows and Amazons.....

I have 4 children. I love to read more than anything else. They have shelves of all my favorites..... Little sods only ever read dog man and wimpy kid. It is a source of never ending annoyance to me.

I came across this post and wanted to recommend my ebook titled eleven for which I have just published! It’s my first book and I enjoyed writing it so much!

Being a Mum I know some of the topics that come up with younger children, so I wrote this book about a girl turning eleven and starting in an all girls Secondary School!

It’s about all the ups and downs of starting Senior School. Drama of friendships, fitting in but keeping true to yourself!

It’s available on Amazon the link is below! Love for anyone to take a look!
Thanks in advance! (🤗)
