Want to start my son on jolly phonics - where do I begin?

Had a look on amazon but swamped by choices and different books. He's just turned four, and can recognise the letters in his name (although as a, b, c not phoenetically) and a few more. Can't write at all. I know he'll learn at school and at his own pace rar rar rar but I want to help

A lot of people start with the flashcards and also some of the Jolly Phonics workbooks and/or the DVD. You can get them discounted on here

The DVD is quite good (my dd'a like it). For younger children my dd's nursery recommended the audio CD with the songs so that they hear the sounds rather than focussing on the reading/writing of the sounds IYSWIM.

I agree the audio cd is a good idea. I got that for my dd (4) and it helped us both enourmously as I found I was actually mispronouncing some of the phonics!

My DD is 4.6, we started learning the alphabet in earnest about 4 weeks ago. I got the oxford reading tree flash cards and the oxford reading tree read at home books (available on Red House website), I chose those becasue that is the scheme they will do in reception when she moves up in September. I split the alphabet in half, made a chart with her with days of the week down the side and the letters across the top. Picked out the flash cards corresponding to the letters on my chart and off we went. For every card she recognised the letter for, she got a sticker in that box on the chart for each day she got it right. Once she had done the first half of the alphabet we made a new chart and did the second half. Then we made a chart for a few simple words, Mom, Dad, Biff, Floppy, (characters in the books) and she is doing really well. She loves getting the stickers and when Daddy comes home - shows him she can 'read'.
