I'm after book recommendations for ds1.He has loads of books, if we go to a book shop he will pick a harry potter or similar, but they're just too big/long to hold his attention. He will then pick up Dog man . I feel like he needs something in betweenI'd like to find him some shorter length books that are not too "young" for him.He reads very well, and is very bright. Work at greater depth in maths and English.Any suggestions please.

Kid Normal isn’t exactly short, but has lots of text, isn’t too wordy and holds my DS’s attention. He also likes The Misadventures of Max Crumbly.

Another that springs to mind is A Series of Unfortunate Events. They're not too long.

My 9yo loves:

The Julius Zebra books - lots of illustrations but a step up from comic/graphic novels. Plus they're properly funny and give them a bit of ancient history. As long as you don't mind your ancient history involving talking zebras and grumpy lions.

The Adventures on Trains books - the first is the Highland Falcon Thief, proper adventure mystery type books.

He's currently on the Who Let The Gods Out books and I'll be honest I've learned a bit of Greek mythology from these. They're pitched slightly older than the other books but really good once you're into them. Some heavier themes (but tbh no heavier than Harry Potter.)

He also likes David Walliams but I don't...

Matt Haig's A Boy Called Christmas and sequels is great for this time of year.
