Looking for bedtime books for my DS who is 3. He is currently enjoying "there's a monster in my book", "10 minutes to bed little dinosaur" and a few personalised books we have for him. Any recommendations? Thanks

The 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs' series by Ian Whybrow was a huge hit with my DS at that age

My DS loved all the Julia Donaldson books. A Squash and a Squeeze was his favourite. At that age he also liked Dear Zoo, Lion Inside series, Oi Frog series and Goodnight Digger.

Caryl Harts 'Albie' books are great, Albie goes to Zoo supermarket, Albie goes to Alien school, Albie goes to pirate pool.

The book with no pictures is a hit too but you have to comment to the words

This is a great little book for any mums worried about kids being told they might be "born in the wrong body". It's a lovely story in itself, but allows conversations about what is and what isnt possible. EG cats cant turn into dogs!!

There are so many amazing picture books out there aimed at this age group. It's hard to recommend just a few. You'd be better off visiting a library to let him explore for himself what he likes, then investing in any that are real hits to add to your own collection.

If he likes Time for Bed Little Dinosaur though there is a whole series based around different characters, same with There's a _ in your book.

Other series he will probably enjoy if he likes those are:-

Ten Little (Pirates, Dinosaurs, Robots, Superheroes etc)
The Dinosaur who pooped (a planet, a princess etc).
Aliens Love Underpants (and monsters, Dinosaurs, pirates etc)
Supertato series
Men Men is usually popular with 3 year olds (personally I much prefer the modern ones written by Adam Hargreaves, the originals by his father Roger are quite dated now but Adam Hargreaves is doing a great job of keeping the franchise alive by writing more modern stories with relevant themes).

Authors I would highly recommend for this age group:-
Julia Donaldson
Sue Hendra (author of Supertato series but loads of other amazing books perfect for this age)
Jill Murphy
Judith Kerr
Peter Bentley
Michael Rosen
Nick Butterworth (Percy the Park Keeper etc).
David McKee (Elmer etc)
Mike Inkpen (Kipper etc)
Tony Mitton
Giles Andreae (especially Giraffes Can't Dance)
Rachel Bright
Tom Percival
Jez Alborough

Honestly though, there are far too many amazing books aimed at this age group, that list is just scratching the surface. I'm sure to have missed so many.

I knew I'd forget several, can't believe I missed Oliver Jefffers! One of my favourite children's authors.

Mark Sperring, Gareth Edwards, Lucy Rowland and Helen Docherty are others I would recommend. See, I said far too many to mention!

Can I recommend Maistorybooklibrary on Instagram she is American but gives brilliant recommendations for picture books that she classifies for different purposes. I have used her to create my library in school and at home.

Eric Carle books- most people know the very hungry caterpillar but my DD loved the bad tempered ladybird. Dr Suess, green eggs and ham, the cat in the hat and others. Tales from the Acorn Wood series, they’re Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler but shorter than their other ones, and they have flaps to lift which little ones enjoy. Yes to hairy Maclairy, Oi Frog. Starting School by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Each peach pear plum.

Hairy McClarey series are great.
