gosh what a versatile writer. Have just finished The River which was brilliant. Optimum age for Didicoy?

9ish I would think. The dolls house books are lovely too, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, and Little Plum.

Rumer Godden is one of my favourite writers, and yet sometimes leaves me feeling rather uncomfortable. The River is superb though. Greengage Summer has the same atmosphere.
