Not sure if it was childrens or YA

It was about child mental health but the storyline was a boy who was unhappy about his parent remarrying and having a stepbrother and maybe moving house ??

His unhappiness manifested itself as a crow he kept seeing who he thought was waiting to attack him ?

I loved it but have no recollection of name or author now

How funny, I was just thinking of this book yesterday and trying to remember the title! It’s I’m The King Of The Castle by Susan Hill I think – although oddly I have a vague memory of reading another book that was very similar – including the crow symbolism – so it could be that, if it does in fact exist!

That does sound similar but I don't think there was a death at the end of mine
As I recall it the boy who thought his stepbrother was after him realised that he had been scaring his stepbrother with the odd behaviour
I read it in the 90s

I'm the king of the castle sounds like a good (but dark) read

Argh, now I’m convinced you’re thinking of the one I’m thinking of and I can’t remember the title.

The first part of your description sounds like The Book of Lost Things, I can't remember if there's a crow in that though
