personalised childrens book gift ideas?

So im trying to find a good personalised educational book for my 8 year olds birthday thats not too babyish but not sure he would like that! there are some out there for £50 but i cant afford that at the moment, am I being too stingy??

Would anyone pay that much/recommend personalised books?

Strange i was about to post a similar thread. I bought our nor 3.5 yr old a hooray heroes book for his first christmas, and have just been on their site to buy the same for our 2nd for this Christmas so they both have the same book as a keepsake...only to find the book is now £50 without postage!! I'm sure I paid £35. £50 for one book seems absolutely ridiculous!!
