Dd is 8 soon and has asked for a stack of books for birthday & Christmas. She loves books & reading and I would like to get her a varied selection of books for both. She loves animals, cats, horses, non fiction such as woman who changed the world, history books, DK mammal encyclopaedia’s that sort of thing but her tastes are changing. Less Museum kittens, & daisy books as she has read these several times over. I was thinking Harry Potter, Ann of Green Gables, so far. I had some great suggestions last year so anymore? Thanks.

You could get one of the box sets of Puffin Classics.
I think you can get one that's "classics" and one that's "Modern Classics".
So lots of variety of books.

Needmorelego · 23/09/2023 23:29

Here's the two Puffin sets. The Modern Classics is £15 in The Works which is a pretty good price.

Percy Jackson - my DD7 loves them and there is a new series on Disney in December so I think will rocket again in popularity. Mina Lima Harry Potter books - they are a bit pricey but just incredibly beautiful and a really special gift. Other books my DD has really been digging are the Skandar and the Unicorn Thief Series. Also Pages and Co - first one is Tilly & the Book Wanderers.

Thanks everyone some fantastic suggestions Green Knowe I haven’t heard of and it sounds right up her street.
I was looking at Jacqueline Wilson and this looks like a good one to start with @Alltheyearround as does the non fiction suggestion. Definitely putting Heidi in, Black Beauty she loved. She didn’t enjoy Faraway tree or Dick King Smith much either, her siblings love it though. Some of the suggestions are perfect for her sister too 😁

Oh, I've remembered another childhood favourite of mine! The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Fabulous stuff.
