Books about Chess

I know this is quite niche but would appreciate any recommendations.

My 12 year old is a decent (but by no means exceptional) chess player. He LOVES chess though and watches chess videos on YouTube all the time as well as playing online games.

I'd really like to get him a book about chess but not sure what to go for. It can be stories about players, tactics or anything else that will hold his interest.

Any mums with chess-loving kids who can suggest some good titles for him?

I'm not sure about books but I listened to this podcast recently and it was really interesting. Not so much about how to play but understanding how tough it can be being a chess champion.

Hi Londonmummer. I can't recommend any specific books as my chess knowledge is not current. It really depends on his level (puzzle books might be too easy or too hard) and interests (e.g. would he want to learn specific openings). Is it for a present or can you ask him? If you have a kindle you could download previews so he could try out different things.
I played chess as a junior in the 80s and 90s and there would always be a book stall at tournaments but it's all changed so much with the internet and technology. You could also contact your local junior club to ask them. I hope you find something!
