At what age did your DC read the Book of Dust?

DD (12) read His Dark Materials in year 5 and had been asking for the Book of Dust for a while.

I have read the two (because I like the series) and feel that the second series has darker themes, like references to rape, sexual assault etc. DD is aware of these from discussions at school with friends but doesn't dwell on them (or at least we haven't had major discussions). The books will likely trigger a barrage of questions and google searches and am unsure if this is the right age.

Hence the question, when did your DC read La Belle Sauvage or the Secret Commonwealth, and what are your thoughts about the right age for these books?

DS read His Dark Materials in year 5. I cant remember when he got to the Book of Dust precisely but I think it was by year 7.
