For the boys:
Harry & bucketful of dinosaurs
Jake (and the beanstalk) - with bag of beans & bag of gold coins

Ds of course, wants to be babar the elephant

cazzybabs · 10/02/2008 14:09

Clarice Bean - normal clothes plus book done as a Ruby Redfort book

Pippi Longstocking - hair in plaits, odd socks, stripy clothes!

DD1 wants to go as Heidi, and DD2 wants to go as Violet Baudelaire.

How the heck do I do that?

brimfull · 10/02/2008 14:23

ok ,I'm going to suggest harry and the bucketful

what clothes?

MrsBadger · 10/02/2008 14:41

Heidi needs a dirndl - you can make quite a good bodice out of crepe paper by cutting out this kind of shape, stapling the shoulder straps, reinforcing the front edges with card, punching holes in them and lacing ribbon through them. Wear over a white blouse and a cotton skirt with an apron.

Violet needs a gothy black or grey dress (get charity shopping!) and a hair ribbon - plus an invention...

We have to do something from Handa's Surprise - would be very grateful for any suggestions...

MrsBadger · 10/02/2008 15:30

do the giraffe because no-one else will - make a tall cone/tube hat out of card and put a giraffe head (two flat profile shapes stapled together at the nose) on top

Carry a pineapple!

policywonk · 10/02/2008 15:31

Oooh, you demon

Thank you

meanwhilebackattheranch · 10/02/2008 16:32

Mrs Badger, you may have missed a calling here.

Thank you for the dirndl - I have an eyelet punch, so I can do the lacing up bit too!!

Thanks again ..... just have to explain to dd why she can't take a grappling hook into school as an invention ....

We've done Violet Baudelaire before. DD wore a midnight blue dress with a black lace shruggy thing over the top, plus black lace gloves (a la early Madonna) and a black velvet hair ribbon. You could always make a non-dangerous grappling hook from rolled up newspaper, covered in tinfoil and folded into a hook shape. DD just had a book that we covered with various de Vinci type drawings and wrote "Inventions" on.

mysonsmummy · 12/02/2008 17:02

keep the coming PLEASE.... i have ds 6 and harry and bucketful of dinosaurs sounds great. we have the bucket and the dinosaurs but what clothes?

MyEye · 12/02/2008 17:06

DD wants to be Phyllis from The Railway Children. I'm thinking she can wear a red skirt underneath a dark dress and I'll have to construct a red flag on a twig for her to wave. Tam-o-shanter. And I'll tape some bootlaces to her (zip) boots and leave 'em flapping.
